Trapped Book

About Trapped

Haunted by her past, ex-police officer Anne Bonnevie from Norway is desperate for a fresh start. She impulsively responds to a personal ad and finds herself on a flight to The Bahamas in order to find the enigmatic man behind the ad.

Upon arriving in Nassau, Anne meets a charming Canadian and his young son. But her trip takes a terrifying turn when she is drugged by a Russian man who mistakes her for someone else. In her weakened state, she is visited by a female hologram pirate, claiming to possess the ability to travel between dimensions. Fueled by rage and determination, Anne vows to seek revenge on the Russian. While recovering from her traumatic experience, she forms a bond with Sylvia, another solo traveler. Together, they befriend Traction, a local fisherman.

One night, Anne and Sylvia find themselves trapped in a burning garage by some thugs after taking a pirate taxi. They must rely on their inner strength and badass skills to survive. Then Sylvia is kidnapped and held captive on a yacht by the same Russian who drugged Anne. With the help of Traction and his small boat, Anne sets out on a mission to free her friend. Their pursuit leads them through treacherous waters as they chase after the yacht, determined to save Sylvia at any cost.

Review Trapped
SYNOPSIS:

When life's troubles become too much, you know you must take action. For one young woman, that means taking a chance on a mysterious personal ad in a Norwegian newspaper and travelling to The Bahamas. But Paradise is a dangerous place for a single woman, and she soon finds herself in serious trouble. With the help of an attractive man and his son, another single woman travelling alone, and a local fisherman with a boat, she unleashes the badass within and does whatever it takes to survive and exact revenge.

The Badass in Bahamas series is an action-packed story featuring a strong heroine, vigilante justice, revenge, and a little romance. It’s a thrilling tale of survival and courage.

A woman who has lost her job, her marriage, and someone she loves needs only one thing: a new beginning. Anne, a twenty-eight-year-old woman in Unni Roberts' novel Trapped, feels trapped in her sorrows. She is a major source of concern for her family members during family dinner, and self-blame tortures her in her house, which she shares with a white rat named Tonny. Worse, the debt collector will not leave her alone. Then, in a newspaper ad, Anne sees an opportunity and boards the next plane to the Bahamas. Things do not go as planned during her brief stay in Nassau, especially after her encounter with Maxim. Together with Sylvia, Anne must now fight for their survival, as not only the Russians but also local gangs and pirates are after them. To begin with, I enjoyed reading this book because of the quality of the writing. The sentences are straightforward and free of distractions. Furthermore, the plot doesn’t slow once it has started. Trapped is written in the first person, though Roberts occasionally shifts the point of view to reveal other characters’ perspectives on the main character. Roberts has created a likable protagonist through this approach, one that readers will love, sympathize with, and get to know much better. The female characters are well-developed, each with flaws, and, most importantly, they can fight. The other characters, particularly Traction, Mel, and Toby, are also interesting as they help drive the plot to its climax. I would like to see Mel in action, especially since he goes MIA when his military skills are needed and shows up at the end. I would also like to know Sylvia’s fate. Because there’s the second book, Framed, I hope I’ll have my wish. To summarize, Trapped is only appropriate for adult readers because it contains kidnapping, arson, violence, and at least two instances of rape within its 237 pages.

SYNOPSIS:

When Anne Bonnevie from Norway accepts a job in a posh development on Guana Cay in The Bahamas, she has no idea of the danger she is about to face. Suspecting her new boss of serious criminal activity, Anne finds her own life in peril when she frees a couple of his trafficking victims. With her life on the line, Anne must dig deep and bring out the inner badass she wasn’t sure she had. The Badass in Bahamas series is an action-packed adventure story with a strong female lead. It’s a thrilling tale of survival, vigilante justice, courage and a sprinkle of romance that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

After the first book, Trapped, in which Unni Roberts plunges readers into Anne's torturous journey, which ends with Sylvia behind bars and Anne's vowing to get her the right attorney by all means necessary, Roberts is back with a sequel, Framed. Traction is still helpful; he is on his boat and ready to help whenever called. Sylvia is still locked up, though she's adapting. Mel and his son leave their hearts open for Anne, excited whenever she shows up or calls. Just as she tries to settle into her new life in Butcher's Bay, Anne realizes her boss, Dennis Hill, is as dirty as they come. The guy owns a yacht called 'Got Away'. When a mother implores Anne from behind bars to find her missing daughters, Anne thinks she can relive her old-cop experience once again. Interestingly, Anne hasn't changed much; she is still the kind of lady who cares for others more than she does for herself. She is the kind of lady who stands up to Mr. Hill when he abuses an employee. This always gets her in trouble, and what's more, her twin sister wears makeup, beneath which lies her troubled past. Just as does the first book, Trapped, Robert's second book, Framed, captures Anne's bad days, and Anne doesn't disappoint—badass as ever and not the damsel to cry out her sorrows. The first few chapters of this book summarize the last book's ending, written in such a way that even new readers will still get along just fine. Roberts does a great job placing a series of hurdles before her characters. Desperate to have her last salary, Anne agrees to attend her boss's party, which worsens things for her. It appears all will be well when Paul agrees to have Anne onboard, but that's never the case. I'm looking forward to reading the third book since Mel will sing the song in Anne's heart to remind her of it. For readers who love a female-led, action-packed novel that has, within its bindings, tattooed Russians, thieves, and rapists, this book is for you.

Review Shark Bait
SYNOPSIS:

When Anne is released from prison, she fights the urge to return to Guana Cay and seek revenge on her former boss who framed her. But when her friend Traction is kidnapped, Anne and her friend Sylvia travel to Guana Cay to free their friend. Their neighbor Dana disappears on a fishing charter. Anne suspects something sinister is afoot and discovers several wives have gone missing in the Caribbean over the past three years. As she investigates further, she finds that her former boss owns the fishing yacht. An agent from the FBI arrives on the island to look into the disappearances. He wants to catch Anne’s former boss and put him on trial, but Anne has her own agenda. With a hurricane looming, Anne must act fast to uncover the truth and seek justice for the innocent victims.

Unni Roberts' Shark Bait is perhaps the last book in the Anne Bonnevie series. The second book, Framed, ends with Anne considering going to prison, and Shark Bait picks up three years, two months, and seventeen days later, beginning with Anne finally walking through the prison gate. Sylvia, Anne's best friend, is also out. As always, Anne is on someone's watch list—this time, Deniss Hills, the ex-boss who framed and succeeded in jailing Anne. Denis has put a professional killer on Anne's tail, a ruthless fellow named Captain Jack, but what's there in Nassau that Anne can't handle? Moreover, Anne is bent on revenge so much that she can't be stopped. The only person standing in her way is an FBI agent in charge of investigating crimes linking Deniss Hill to the disappearances of wives while aboard the fishing charters. Interestingly, the imagined, long-dead pirate friend, Anne Bonney, knows of a certain treasure trove and wants to help Anne Bonnevie retrieve it. Like the other books, Shart Bait captures Roberts's writing style as simple and fun. The plot is devoid of distraction, providing smooth, engaging reading, and through characters worth reading about, Shark Bait chronicles Anne's near-death adventures in foreign soil in ways that will leave readers craving for more. Anne is a bit solo here, especially after bidding farewell to her great team—Sylvia and Traction. Even so, she is determined and courageous, forever the badass girl who sticks her foot in the doorway unless given the right answers. The book's ending is also satisfying since Anne finally gets what she has been looking for, perhaps from the day she left home for the Bahamas. In this book, Anne Bonnevie has again proven she has nine lives. As such, fans of action-packed novels and all adults in the reading sphere should read Anne's story.
